As a university preparatory school, our main purpose is to prepare students to meet the academic, athletic, social, artistic, and technological challenges of higher education. To this end, AIS offers a U.S. high school diploma, Costa Rican high school diploma, Advanced Placement (AP) courses, and MATEM (Proyecto Matemática para la Enseñanza Media) classes for Costa Rican universities.
The AIS high school program reflects those qualities and activities that AIS considers essential including critical thinking, writing, creativity, physical activity, leadership, and community. The academic program at AIS is intellectually stimulating and demanding, promoting well-rounded, inquiring, knowledgeable, compassionate, and global minded students.
Beginning in high school, students prepare for the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test, SAT reasoning test, and Advanced Placement tests. Students may also be eligible to take honors courses that develop and hone their skills in preparation for upper-level advanced courses.
The curriculum is rigorous and challenging, encouraging students to think critically and creatively as well as handle the pressures of multiple concurrent deadlines.
High school students are encouraged and supported by caring staff, who put their students’ education and emotional stability first. High school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities that develop their talents, interests, leadership skills, and community involvement. AIS endeavors to graduate students who will be future leaders, lifelong learners, and positive contributors to society.
