Letter from the Board of Directors Aug-2025 / Carta de la Junta Directiva Ago-2025

Dear AIS community,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! We hope this will be a productive and enjoyable year for our entire community.

The purpose of this newsletter is to increase awareness of the roles, responsibilities, and activities of the Board of Directors. AIS is one of very few private schools in Costa Rica that is parent owned. We are governed by an all voluntary 6-member board (President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and 2 at-large members) plus a Fiscal. The board works with the administration to manage the fiscal stability and growth of the school and ensure the school’s mission and vision are being met. While the board is responsible for oversight, the administration is responsible for the day to day running of the school. Information regarding past activities and future projects, financial reporting, and other relevant topics are presented to all families twice a year at the General Assembly meetings, held in November and May. We encourage everyone to attend these meetings to stay informed.

If you have been on campus, you may have noticed some of the improvements we made over the summer break. First is the paving of the parking lot and sidewalk. New bathrooms were constructed, and existing bathrooms were remodeled, including showers in the gymnasium. The front office was reconfigured to provide a private space for the accountant and the Preschool classroom was divided to create a Toddler classroom as AIS continues to grow.

At the end of the last school year, we completed the installation of solar panels on the gymnasium roof. This project will supply all our electrical needs on a clear sunny day and provide significant savings while also benefitting the environment.

It is our goal to be a welcoming and supportive environment to your children. We continue to work towards improving the academic and physical environment of AIS.

Thank you for being a part of AIS and we hope to see you on campus soon!
